Four of Domhan a.k.a. the Four of Pentacles
In the Four of Domham, or more commonly called the Four of Pentacles in other decks, we see Four Pentacles etched on the pillars that are guarding and supporting the ‘safe room’ for all the gold and riches we have accumulated thus far. In front of the “safe room” we see a pillow where we can sit and guard our treasures as well as admire all we have accumulated. This is all very good and nice, except if you notice the color of the pillow, you will see that it is also the same gray color as the stone ‘safe room’. This indicates that you spend way too much time admiring your money and possessions or working and worrying about accumulating more. More money, more possessions… more, more, more and still more. When is enough, enough? Are you working for the sole purpose of accumulating more money and possessions to the exclusion of joy and your soul purpose? If your work doesn’t feed your soul as well as your pocketbook, then this my be the case for you. If you only passions in life comes from money and what it can gain you, perhaps you need to loosen your grip on some of your wealth and have some fun with some of it. After all, “All work and no play makes Jack/or Jill and dull boy/girl!” This card is frequently called the ‘King Midas’ card. Where he loved his money and possessions so much that matters of the heart fell by the wayside. All he had held dear to him was left unattended and money became his sole passion and everything he touched turned to gold. When he finally did look away from his work, possessions and gold and realized that he was lonely, he called for his daughter for company , but when she came to his side and he touched her, she too turned to gold. It was only then that the King realized that true wealth comes from the people and experiences we love and enjoy in life. So this card is a warning to not bring your work home with you, and learn when enough is enough. Don’t spend all your time and attention on your work, money and possessions. Tend to matters of your heart too. Let go of some of that money in order to share and enjoy it with others and the pursuit of happiness. This doesn’t mean becoming a spendthrift and blowing your budget, it just means putting enjoyment and recreation into your budget. Budget some time and money to things and people you hold near and dear to you.
